How To Calculate Your Estimated
Blood Alcohol Content (BAC)

Showing estimated percent of alcohol in the blood by number of drinks in relation to body weight. This percent can be estimated by:

  1. Count your drinks (1 drink equals 1 ounce of 100-proof liquor, one five ounce glass of table wine or one 12-ounce bottle of regular beer).
  2. Use the chart below and under number of "drinks" and opposite "body weight" find the percent of blood alcohol listed.
  3. Subtract from this number the percent of alcohol "burned up" during the time elapsed since your first drink. This figure is .015% per hour. (Example: 180 lb. man - 8 drinks in 4 hours / .167% minus (.015x4) = .107 %

NOTE: This blood alcohol content (BAC) chart is only a guide and not sufficiently accurate to be considered legal evidence. The figures you calculate are averages. Individuals may vary somewhat in their personal alcohol tolerance. Food in the stomach slows the rate of absorption. Medication, health, and psychological conditions are also influencing factors.

In Pennsylvania DUI is .08

REFUSAL TO TAKE BAC TEST RESULTS IN ONE-YEAR REVOCATION OF DRIVER’S LICENSE.

If you have just refused to take the BAC test within the last couple of days, it is paramount that you speak to a DUI attorney as soon as possible.  If the officer fills out the DL 26 form "Chemical Test Warnings" and sends it to Pennsylvania DOT, then you must file an appeal within 30 days of the mail date.  Many times your attorney can call the officer and ask him to hold the notice until we go to court for the underlying criminal matter and perhaps negotiate that this form never be sent, thereby saving at least one year's suspension of your driver’s license.
